What CNC machining is
CNC (computer numerical control) machining removes material from stock using programmed toolpaths. Mills, lathes, and multi-axis machines can produce complex geometries with repeatable accuracy.
It suits metals (aluminium, steel, brass, titanium) and many engineering plastics. Compared with injection moulding, CNC usually has lower upfront tooling cost but higher per-unit cost at volume.

Use CNC when you need functional prototypes, bridge production before tooling, low volumes where moulds do not pay back, or parts with tight dimensional requirements.
If you expect high annual volumes of a plastic part, injection moulding may become more economical once tooling is amortised — ask for both options when unsure.
What to send for a useful quote
Provide CAD (preferably STEP), 2D drawings for critical dimensions, material and temper, surface finish requirements, quantity and delivery location, and any inspection or certification needs.
Call out which dimensions are critical versus reference. Ambiguous tolerances are a common cause of rework and quote inflation.
