Pantone matching

What Pantone colour matching means in manufacturing and print, when to use it, and its limits across materials.

What it is

Pantone is a standardised colour system that lets you specify a colour by code rather than description. It is the common language for print, packaging, and many product finishes.

Limits to know

The same Pantone code renders differently on coated paper, fabric, and moulded plastic. For critical brand colours, approve physical samples in the actual material — the code gets you close; the sample gets you agreement.
